Beschreibung

Der Sundadanio axelrodi ist ein äußerst kleiner Zwergbärbling, der seinen Namen durch seine optisch ähnliche Färbung zum Roten Neon (paracheirodon axelrodi) erhalten hat.
Die Männchen zeigen oft eine intensiv blaue Rückenfarbe, sowie einen rötlich gefärbten Bauch, die Flossen sind meist stark dunkel bis schwarz gefärbt. Die Weibchen zeigen ähnliche Färbung meist aber deutlich blasser. Die Tiere erreichen eine Länge von meist nur 2 bis 2,5 cm.

Herkunft und Lebensraum

Sundadanio axelrodi stammt aus teils sehr weichen Gewässern Sumatras und Borneo.

Vermehrung

Die Zucht im Aquarium ist durchaus möglich, in dichtem Moos und feinfiedrigen Pflanzen laichen die gut genährten Elterntiere teils täglich einige wenige Eier ab.
Die schlüpfenden Jungtiere brauchen gerade zu Beginn äußerst feines Futter.
Eine Aufzucht separiert von Elterntieren und anderem Besatz ist meist deutlich erfolgreicher.

Fütterung

Sundadanio axelrodi lassen sich gut an feines, proteinreiches Granulatfutter gewöhnen. Wichtig ist, dass es nicht zu groß für die kleinen Mäuler der Tiere ist. Zusätzlich danken die Tiere eine regelmäßige Fütterung mit Frost und Lebendfutter durch tolle Farben.

Haltung

Sundadanio haben sich bei uns in der Haltung als ausgesprochene Weichwasser-Spezialisten herausgestellt. Sie sind eine der wenigen Arten, bei denen wir eine Haltung grundsätzlich mit Osmosewasser oder vergleichbar weichen Wasserwerten empfehlen.

Die Tiere sind äußerst gesellig und sollten daher in größeren Gruppen von ca. 12 Tieren aufwärts, in größeren Aquarien auch deutlich mehr Tiere, gehalten werden.

Solange das Aquarium ein paar dichter bepflanzte Rückzugsorte bietet, halten sie sich gerne und viel im Freiwasser auf. Auch eine Haltung in Iwagumi hat sich bei uns bewährt, solange im Hintergrund ein paar dichte Gräßer stehen die etwas Schutz bei Stress bieten können.

Die Tiere können bei guter Haltung mehrere Jahre alt werden.
