Beschreibung

Der Normans Leuchtaugenfisch besticht durch seine blau leuchtende Iris, die im den Namen verleiht. Der gelblich-grau gefärbte Körper wird von blau schimmernden Flanken geziert. Die flossen der Männchen laufen spitz zu und können einen dunklen Saum aufweisen. Die der Weibchen sind abgerundet.
Beide Geschlechter werden ca. 3-4 cm groß.

Herkunft und Lebensraum

Der Normans Leuchtaugenfisch ist in West- und Zentralafrika bis in den Senegal und Nordkamerun beheimatet. Ebenso ist er in den Quellregion des Niles und des Tschad Rivers zu finden. Er bewohnt dabei sowohl fließende, als auch stehende Gewässer.

Vermehrung

Normans Leuchtaugen sind Haftlaicher. Nach meist stürmischer Balz, werden die Eier nahe der Oberfläche an meist Schwimmende Pflanzenteile geheftet, an denen sie dank kurzer Klebefäden kleben bleiben. Im Gesellschaftsbecken können vereinzelte Jungtiere groß werden. Deutlich effizienter ist die Nachzucht in einem Artaquarium oder Zuchtansatz.

Fütterung

Normans Leuchtaugen ernähren sich überwiegend proteinreich. Neben einer Versorgung mit Lebend und Fostfutter sollte daher ein Futter mit hohem Proteinanteil gewählt werden. Die Tiere fressen vor allem von der Oberfläche und im Freiwasser, sobald das Futter zu Boden sinkt wird es überwiegend ignoriert. Vor allem Jungfische bei der Aufzucht fressen in der Regel nicht vom Boden.

Haltung

Normans Leuchtaugen sind vor allem zu Beginn meist scheuere Fische. In außreichender Gruppengröße gewöhnen sie sich allerdings meist schnell ein und sind dann auch gerne im Freiwasser unterwegs. Ab 12-15 Tieren zeigt sich das stressfrei Gruppenverhalten meist sehr gut. Neben dem freien Schwimmraum den die Tiere gerne aufsuchen sollte es schattige Bereiche und Strukturen geben, in den sich die Tiere bei stress zurück ziehen können.

Eine Vergesellschaftung mit anderen kleineren Zierfischen ist in der Regel unkompliziert und leicht möglich.

Normans Leuchtaugen können bei guter Pflege bis zu 10 Jahre alt werden.
