Beschreibung

Der Pfeffersalmler oder Axelrodia riesei ist ein kleiner, lebendiger Salmler. Der Rücken ist rot gefärbt, während Bauch und flossen eher einen weiß-grauen Farbton haben. Die Schwanzwurzel wird von einem scharzen Felck geziert, über dem ein fast schon neonrot-leuchtender zweiter Fleck sitzt. Weibchen und männchen sind nahezu identisch gefärbt und werden ca 3 cm groß, die Weibchen sind meist etwas fülliger.

Herkunft und Lebensraum

Ursprünglich aus Südamerika, insbesondere Venezuela. Dort bewohnen sie vor allem weiche und saure Gewässer.

Vermehrung

Die Vermehrung im Aquarium ist auf jeden Fall möglich, bisher aber eher die Ausnahme und nicht sehr leicht. Genauere Ansprüche an eine gezielte Zucht müssen erst noch genauer erforscht werden.

Fütterung

Rote Pfeffersalmler sind Allesfresser und nehmen eine Vielzahl von Futtersorten zu sich. Dennoch sollte überwiegend proteinreich gefüttert werden. Neben kleinem Granulat werden aber gerne auch andere Futtermittel wie Pasten oder Tabletten angenommen. Zusätzlich sollte gelegentlich Frost- und Lebenfutter in passender Größe gefüttert werden.

Haltung

Rote Pfeffersalmler sollten in einer Gruppe von mindestens zehn bis fünfzehn Tieren gehalten werden, idealerweise in einem gut strukturierten Aquarium mit Unterständen und Versteckmöglichkeiten. Bei zu kleiner Gruppengröße ziehen sich die Pfeffersalmler schnell ins Dickicht zurück, daher sollten ausreichend Tiere (15+) gehalten werden.

Mit anderen kleineren Arten ist der Pfeffersalmler gut zu vergesellschaften.

Empfohlene Pflegeprodukte

Für kleine Fische empfehlen wir ein passendes Futter in der richtigen Größe. Besonders geeignet sind langsam sinkende Granulate wie das Arka Bio Gran Nano oder die Granulate von Dr. Bassleer.
Da die Fische eine empfindliche Schleimhaut haben empfehlen wir den Einsatz von Huminstoffen, wie das Liquid Humin+ oder auch Naturprodukten wie Seemandelbaumblätter oder Erlenzapfen.
Ebenfalls zur Pflege der Schleimhäute, sowie zur Unterstützung der Darmflora empfehlen wir den Einsatz von MikrobeLift TheraP
